Rainbow Lemonade

'Rainbow Lemonade' album cover.

Kids have a way of turning the everyday into something exciting and whimsical. Rainbow Lemonade captures this magical phase of childhood. The songs explore topics ranging from sticky food to exploring nature after a spring rain. Several songs are simple, featuring just vocals and guitar, while other songs are more sophisticated, with styles ranging from bluegrass to straight-ahead jazz, brought to life by various Lawrence musicians and bands.

Rainbow Lemonade is an eclectic album - a fun snapshot of Lawrence's vibrant music community at the time.

Lyrics:

  • All you children gather ‘round

    We’re so glad you stayed

    For now’s the time

    To sing a rhyme

    With Rainbow Lemonade

  • Firefly fancies and little mice dreams

Unripe tomatoes and green green beans

Tap your toes and wiggle your knees

    Say your hellos in Japanese

    Konnichiwa

    Konnichiwa

    Konnichiwa

    Konnichiwa

    Come along with me

We’ll have a picnic in the shade

I’ll pour you a glass of rainbow lemonade

We’ll think about the days of the Alphabet Parade

Dreaming of the tune the tuba played

Firefly fancies and little mice dreams

Unripe tomatoes and green green beans

Tap your toes and wiggle your knees

    Say your hellos in Japanese

    (overlapping dialogue)

    Pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters

Four leaf clovers to peak over

    Pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters

    Barefoot children at the Borders

    Come along with me

We’ll have a picnic in the shade

I’ll pour you a glass of rainbow lemonade

We’ll think about the days of the Alphabet Parade

Dreaming of the tune the tuba played

  • Halala coco nana

    Peanut butter jelly

  • Seaside, seaside

I’m walking on the wrong side

You say the sea is orange, orange

    And the sand is blue

    Low tide, low tide

I can see the world wide

A flock of seagulls flying high by

    Go bye, bye

    And I’m flying too

Take a stop on a mountain top

Lick a cloud and play it like a cello

Paint the sky, paint it loud

    A green, green sky

    With a fleck of yellow

    Seaside, seaside

I’m walking on the wrong side

You say the sea is orange, orange

    And the sand is blue

    Orange

    Low tide, low tide

I can see the world wide

A flock of seagulls flying high by

    Go bye, bye

    High by

    And I’m flying too

  • Say your hellos in Portuguese

    (Portuguese dialogue)

  • Before it was a pickle

    It was a cucumber

    Before it was a raisin

    It was a grape

Before it was a french fry

    It was a potato

    Before it was a chicken

    It was an egg

    What comes first

    The chicken or the egg

    Chicken

    Egg

  • Them skeeters pickin’ on me

    Them skeeters pickin’ on me

One bit me on my knee

    Them skeeters pickin’ on me

One bit me on my nose

    And that itches

    Don’t cha know

One bit me on my nose

    And that sure itches

    Don’t cha know

    I said those doggone skeeters

    A-pickin’ on me

    Ah, Mr. Skeeter

    Wish you’d go

Fly on away and leave me alone

    ‘Cause those doggone skeeters

    A-pickin’ on me

    Them skeeters pickin’ on me

    Them skeeters pickin’ on me

One bit me on my knee

    Them skeeters pickin’ on me

Oh, you know those doggone skeeters

    Pickin’ on me

  • Pitter pitter patter

    Go the caterpillar’s toes

    Pitter pitter patter

    Go the caterpillar’s toes

    Pitter pitter patter

    Go the caterpillar’s toes

    And where she goes

    Nobody knows

I know what happens to the caterpillar

    The caterpillar becomes a pupa

    It enters an inactive stage

    While it undergoes internal changes

    The caterpillar hangs motionless

    Upside down

And its skin appears to split apart

    As if molting

Now the soft pupa, a greenish yellow color

    Begins to appear

It is immediately covered by a hard protective shell

    Called a chrysalis

    After ten to fourteen days

    The chrysalis bursts open

    And out emerges a butterfly

    A beautiful butterfly

    Flitter flitter flutter

    Go the butterfly wings

    Flitter flitter flutter

    Go the butterfly wings

    Flitter flitter flutter

    Go the butterfly wings

    And if you listen closely

    You can hear her sing

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la,

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la,

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

  • What comes out after the rain

What comes out after the rainfall

    Earthworms and snails

    On the sidewalk

There are mushrooms in the grass

In a fairy ring, a magical fairy ring

What comes out after the rain

What comes out after the rainfall

    There are birds

    There are birds

    In the sky

    Chirping merrily

And children come out to play

What comes out after the rain

What comes out after the rainfall

    Mud

Mud, mud, mud, mud, mud, mud

    Squishy, squashy, smooshy, gooshy

    Burpy, slurpy, icky, sticky

    Squish, squash, smoosh, goosh

    Squishy, squashy, smooshy, gooshy

    Burpy, slurpy, icky, sticky

    Ploop, plop, slip, slop

    Mud, mud, mud

Burp, slurp, ick, stick, gloop, glop

    Mud

What comes out after the rain

What comes out after the rainfall

    And sometimes there’s

    A rainbow

  • Say your hellos in Cantonese

    (Cantonese dialogue)

  • Explore, explore

Look at the things you’ve never seen before

    Explore, explore

What’s on the ceiling, what’s on the floor

    Explore

    Explore, explore

Look at the things you’ve never seen before

    Explore, explore

What’s on the peeling, what’s on the core

    Explore

Exploring is one way to satisfy your curiosity

    About the world around you

It means checking out the world

One day I found a nest and it had blue eggs inside

My mommy told me that they were robin’s eggs

Sometimes I explore inside my head

    That’s called imagination

    Explore, explore

Look at the things you’ve never seen before

    Explore, explore

What’s in the box, what’s behind the door

    Explore

Sometimes when I look inside my head

I see dragons and castles and stuff like that

    I discovered a roly-poly

    When I see a roly-poly I feel like a roly-poly

I found a few little frogs and I caught a toad

Toads are nice, but I love frogs because

    They’re smooth and slippery

    Explore, explore

Look at the things you’ve never seen before

    Explore, explore

    There’s so much more

    Waiting for you

There’s so much more for you to

    Explore

    I found a bunny

    She lives in my bushes

    I love books

    I can explore new ideas

And all kinds of new things

    I look at the pictures

    And I read the words

I like to lay down in the grass

And look up at the sky

    Oooh, that’s so cool

  • La bella lavanderina

    Che lava i fazzoletti

    Per i poveretti della città

Fai un salto, fanne un altro

    Fai la giravolta

    Falla un'altra volta

Guarda in su, guarda in giù

Dai un bacio a chi vuoi tu

  • Baiba goes back to her bungalow

    Bye, bye, Baiba, bye, bye

William is waiting to take her to the show

    Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye

    And it’s on the scooter

    On the scooter they’ll go

    Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye

    To see a foreign flick

In a language they don’t know

    Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye

Bee bup bum badaba bee bup bum

Bee bup Baiba bee bup Baiba

    Boo dabada bee bup bum

    William

Baiba goes back to her bungalow

Bye bye bye bye bye bye

William is waiting to take her to the show

    Baiba bye bye bye

    And it’s on the scooter

    On the scooter they’ll go

    Baiba bye bye bye

    To see a foreign flick

In a language they don’t know

    Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye

Badee bup bum badada bee bup bum
